Fort William & Ben Nevis

Fort William

The town of Fort William lies on the banks of Loch Linnhe, in the beautiful countryside in the West Highlands of Scotland. Surrounded by picturesque mountains including Ben Nevis, Britain’s highest peak, Fort William has a rich Clan history and offers unspoilt sandy beaches, magnificent forests and stunning glens.

Ben Nevis, at 1344 metres, is the highest mountain in Britain. The name ‘ Nevis ’ is possibly derived from a Gaelic word meaning ‘venemous’. If so this would certainly capture the dark side of this peak, which rises dramatically behind the town. Along it’s north face stretch some two kilometres of cliffs. Access to the mountain is made through Glen Nevis where several films have been shot including some scenes from the Harry Potter movies, Braveheart and Rob Roy.
